Monkey Men

from Politics by Will Good & The Mattes

/

about

On March 27th 2021, Daily Mirror journalist Matthew Dresch tweeted a video he'd taken during the civil unrest in Bristol, UK. He was filming the riot squad as they walked past when, with no provocation, one of them lashed out and hit Dresch with his stick. Watch the video at twitter.com/matthewdresch/status/1375606889740898305.
This song is about the policeman who wielded that stick, the others like him, and the fools who defended him on social media.

lyrics

Here come the monkey men
Rat a tat tat
Wind em up so
They rat a tat tat
Shields are drumming
The rat a tat tat
Wave their sticks
They rat a tat tat

See the pretty uniforms
And their big black boots

Got a hard on
For rat a tat tat
Give the nod then
Rat a tat tat
Off the leash for
Rat a tat tat
Bones to crack
By rat a tat tat

See the pretty uniforms
And their shiny boots

See the pretty uniforms
Makes you want to think

They signed up for
The rat a tat tat
What they came for
The rat a tat tat
Cha Cha Cha for
The rat a tat tat
All the guys go
Rat a tat tat

See the pretty uniforms
And their marching boots
